Snowman Nail Design Tutorial

These were fun to design because you end up with cute little snowmen at the end :)! I made 4 snowmen and did the rest of the nails with snowflakes and glitter to make them all Christmas-y *_* – I named my 4 snowmen after their personality; Bob, Fred, Larry & George…o_o

Below is the tutorial for those wanting to design these nails themselves. Alternatively, Bob, Fred, Larry & George will be up for auction on eBay, I hope they go to a friendly home ^_^!

If using UV gel then you will also need a UV lamp, Cleanser plus & lint free wipes (or cotton pad).

Step by step instructions for the snowman:

Step 1 – Making the body of the snowman

– Using your white nail art pen, draw a small (ish) circle about 1/4 down your nail. Next, draw the outline of the snowman’s body leading on from the head you just made. Finally, colour in the white body.

Start with a blob for the head, then move on to the body.

Tip – you can use your cuticle stick to help neaten up the snowman by smoothing it along the edges.

Cuticle stick – so helpful for designing

Alternative – you can also do this same process with white nail polish/UV gel, using a small nail brush to apply it.

Step 2 – Creating the hat

– In the space you left clear above the snowman’s head, you now want to create a hat. The best way I found to do this, is to first draw a black line across the top of the snowman’s head, then on top of the line in the middle, push the black ink upwards to the tip of the nail.

Tipagain, use your cuticle stick to neaten any parts up that don’t look smooth.

Give it a tidy :)

Alternative – you could also do this same process with black nail polish/UV gel, using a small nail brush to design it.

Step 3 – Applying the rhinestones & bow

Those using UV gel – place an even layer of gel over your whole nail (once the snowman’s body and hat has fully dried).

Apply your UV gel top coat to get the rhinestones to stick to the design.

Pick out two blue eyes, two black buttons and a bow. Next, place a bit of gel on the tip of your cuticle stick and use it to pick up your rhinestones and bow to place on the snowman.

You'll only need a little bit of UV gel to pick up the rhinestones.

Those using clear nail varnish – Pick out two blue eyes, two black buttons and a bow. Doing one nail at a time (as the nail varnish will dry up), apply a layer of polish to your nail and following straight on from this, dip the end of your cuticle stick into your nail polish. Use it to pick your rhinestones and bow up and place them on the snowman.

They can be fiddly and hard to pick up at first :)

TipThose using nail varnish – it may dry whilst your applying your rhinestones. If it does, just keep adding more to the area that needs it.

Tip 2If you look closely at the rhinestones they vary slightly in size, so be careful when choosing the two blue eyes, check they are even in size – I made this mistake at first and it ruined the look of the snowman ¬_¬

Step 4 – Making his carrot nose

– Using your gold nail art pen, place a tiny blob in the middle of the snowman’s head and drag it slightly downwards and to the side.

Step 5 – Curing/drying

– If you used nail varnish then wait for it all to dry before doing the last step. Those using UV gel, you can now cure your nails under the UV lamp (2 minutes for a 36watt lamp). Once cured, remove the sticky residue using your cleanser plus and a lint free wipe.

Step 6 – Final top coat

–  Now apply your final top coat. Again, this can be UV gel or clear nail polish. Once this has been cured/dried, you could add another for extra protection and shine 🙂

Step by step instructions for the snowflake nails:

Step 1 – Making the snowflakes

– Using your white nail art pen, create a mix of small and big polka dots on to your nails.

Draw some white blobs :)

Draw some white blobs 🙂

TipIt looks better if you leave quite a bit of space between each polka dot, and do an even amount of big polka dots and small ones.

AlternativeThis look can also be created using white UV gel/nail varnish, and applying it to your nail with a dotting tool.

Step 2 – Applying the glitter

Firstly, spread a tissue or piece of paper out to catch the spare glitter 🙂

So the glitter will stick to your nails :)

Those using UV gel – Smooth a layer over your nails, and using your thumb and index finger, pick some of the glitter out of the pot and sprinkle evenly over your nail.

Glitter makes everything better :D

Those using clear nail varnish – Do the same as you would with the UV gel, but doing only one nail at a time so the nail varnish doesn’t dry up before you apply the glitter.

Step 3 – Curing/drying

– If you used nail varnish then wait for it all to dry before doing the last step. Those using UV gel, you can now cure your nails under the UV lamp (2 minutes for a 36watt lamp). Once cured, remove the sticky residue using your cleanser plus and a lint free wipe.

Step 4 – Final top coat

– Now apply your final top coat. Again, this can be UV gel or clear nail polish. Once dry/cured, I always like to apply a second coat for extra protection and shine 🙂
