Christmas Present Nail Art Tutorial

These nails are so cute! They are also one of the quickest and easiest designs I have done this Christmas, which is always a bonus!

I have wrote the step by step instructions below for you to have a look at or make yourself – if you do make them then I would love to see them :]

Equipment I used for this design:

– Full false nails – I used glittery pink ones

– Gold nail art pen – for the ribbon

– Metallic gold striping tape – for the ribbon

– Scissors – to cut the striping tape

– Nail file – to remove excess striping tape

– Cute bows – for the main feature

– Clear UV gel – to secure the whole design, especially the bows

– Cleanser plus & lint free wipes – to remove the sticky residue from the UV gel

– UV lamp – to cure the UV gel

– Cuticle stick – this helps to tidy the ribbon up & place the bows on

Step by step instructions:

Step 1 – Choosing your nails

You could either make this design on your natural nails, or on full false nails. I recommend using full false nails so you can use both your hands – this makes it a lot quicker and easier to create the design 🙂

I chose pink glitter false nails for this manicure – to get this look I applied two coats of pink glitter nail varnish over baby pink full false nails. You don’t have to use pink, any colour will look good 🙂

Step 2 – Creating the ribbon
  • I used a gold nail art pen for this part, but you could use any colour you like. If you don’t have nail art pens, then a small brush and nail varnish can be used instead.
  • With your pen, simply make a vertical line from the top of your nail to the bottom.
Wait for this line to dry before moving on to the next step :)

Tip –The width of the ribbon is just your personal preference – I did mine quite thin so that a lot of the pink glitter can still be seen. Bear in mind that striping tape will also be applied to either side of this line making it thicker.

Tip 2 – The cuticle stick is a great tool to help neaten up the line and make it as straight as possible. The good thing about nail art pens is that they take a while to dry, so any mistakes can be edited or removed.

Step 3 – Cut & apply the striping tape
  • Prepare your striping tape by cutting it into pieces – long enough to cover the length of your longest nail, and enough for two strips per nail.
Cut off quite a few strips and find something to stick them to until you need them :)

  • Apply one on either side of the gold line.
  • The excess tape will be filed off in the final step

Step 4 – Securing the tape
  • Apply a nice even layer of UV gel over the design so far, and cure under the UV lamp (2 minutes for a 36watt lamp)

  • Once they have been cured, the sticky residue will not need to be removed as more UV gel will be applied in the next step

Step 5 – Applying the cute bows
  • Apply quite a thick layer of UV gel to the middle of your nail where the bow will be applied, and a little underneath the bow.

  • Your cuticle stick can be used to help steady the bow in its correct position

  • Once the bows are in place, cure them under the UV lamp (2 minutes for 36watt)

Tip – Take your nails out from under the lamp every ten seconds to check the bows are still in the right place – you will be able to nudge them into position with cuticle stick. Note – you only need to do this for the first minute.

Step 6 – Filing & final top coat
  • Once cured, apply a final top coat to all your nails – this will make them stronger and last a lot longer.

Tip – Where the bow sticks out, there will be a gap underneath – apply UV gel under this to make the bows more secure on your nail. This will also make them less likely to get caught on things in day-to-day life.

  • Once they are all cured, remove all the sticky residue from your nails.

  • Finally, file off the excess tape that’s hanging over the edge of your nails – do this in a downwards motion, and only apply slight pressure so it doesn’t file away any of your newly made nails.

Now you can enjoy your beautiful Christmas nails 🙂 !
