Models Own Rubberised Base Coat Review

Hi everyone!

I have something a bit different for you today 😀 . A few weeks ago I bought this Models Own base coat from ASOS here:

Models Own Rubberised Base Coat Review

Note: The nail polish comes out clear, not blue

After wearing it a few times, I started thinking to myself ‘I wonder if there is a way for me to test whether this actually works?’ and so I came up with an idea…

This Models Own Rubberised Base Coat claims to ‘extend the life of your manicure’. So to test this, I have done the same nail art on each hand, but only my left hand has the Models Own base coat underneath.
Each day I am going to take a picture of each hand and upload it to this page. If the nail polish does what it claims to do, then the manicure on my right hand should start to wear off before the manicure on my left hand (the one with the base coat).

Here’s the nail polishes I used for this nail art design:

Models Own Base Coat Review ASOSWhen applying the base coat it glides on so easily, dries super fast and has a ‘rubbery’ finish to it. If you have any marks, dents etc. on your nail then this base coat will smooth it all out. And just look at how perfect the brush is:

DAY 1:

Models Own Rubberised Base Coat Review Day 1

No signs of wear yet, as should be expected for day 1…

DAY 2.

Models Own Rubberised Base Coat Review Day 2

First sign of wear – a small chip in the corner of my right thumb (looks like I chipped the nail too 🙁 )
– So the base coat nails are winning so far woo!

DAY 3.

Models Own Rubberised Base Coat Review Day 3

The first chip has appeared! And quite a big one at that! (This happened whilst I was at work 🙁 )
But as should be expected, the chip happened on one of the ‘no base coat nails’.

 DAY 4.

The result is starting to look very clear now so I will make tomorrow the last day of the experiment :).
My left hand is still looking pretty much like new, whereas plenty wear is showing on my right hand.

DAY 5.

Models Own Rubberised Base Coat Review Day 5

So I decided that this would be the final day because as you can see, there is a clear winner!

The results from this experiment show that the Models Own rubberised base coat does work! Yay!

I applied the base coat under the design on my left hand, and as you can see it took 5 days before any signs of wear could be seen. Whereas the design on my right hand did not last very long at all, and that was with a Seche Vite topcoat too!

I should also mention that when I removed this manicure, it came off so much easier on my right hand compared to my left hand. I like that this happened because it was more proof that the base coat really does work 🙂 .

If you would like to buy this base coat then it’s available through Amazon here or ASOS here.

Are you right-handed or left-handed though? I’m guessing you’re right-handed. My manicures always chip on my dominant hand more than on the non-dominant one. Perhaps you should try the same experiment but wear the base coat on the other hand??

    • Well you have made 2 good points. The first one being about my right hand – I thought this was a good discussion point so I’m glad you brought this up (thought the post would be a bit long if I started to mention all the variables). So yes, I agree, the chips could have been because I use my right hand more. However, when removing the nail polish it came off SO much easier on the nails without the base coat which I thought was a good indicator. This brings me to your second point – I would love to test this again using the base coat on my dominant hand and I will definitely make plans for this 🙂 .

      Thanks for commenting xx

  8. wow does an excellent job i see then 🙂

    • I’ve been a happy customer every time I’ve used it 🙂 x

  9. Ooh I usually use Nail envy just so my nails don’t break but I like the idea of it smoothing everything out and obviously not having to worry about my nails chipping like on holiday or over a weekend, looks like it will be worth a try!
    B xx

    • Yeah I was really happy with it and I’m going to use it until the bottle has gone and then try a new one 😀 xxx

  10. Ulta here has started carrying MO but don’t recall seeing this base; it looks nicer than some of rubberized bases I’ve seen which have sort of stained color to them.

    • Yeah I like the blue tint this one has in the bottle 🙂 x

  11. wow I love the manicure with the blue stripes that you created!!!
